The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is an exciting new initiative in a city that is already acclaimed for its clinical research legacy. The changing legal and regulatory environment in which we all must now work has meant that the centralisation of research services is essential. The Glasgow CRF aims to provide a framework for this centralisation process and, in so doing, to offer new levels of support to investigators and patients across the city.

Who We Are

The Glasgow CRF was established on April 1st 2006 by an NHS Clinical Research Grant Agreement with the CSO.

The Glasgow CRF is therefore an NHS initiative but we work closely with partners in higher education - principally the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Paisley and Glasgow Caledonian University.

The hub of the Glasgow CRF has been created in the Tennent Building at the Western Infirmary and a major new development is underway in the East of the city to create a new satellite CRF at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The recent refurbishment of a clinical research area at the Yorkhill site has further expanded Glasgow Clinical CRF by providing a dedicated area with research nurses and administrative staff to support paediatric research.

Clinical Research Support

Currently we are providing support in terms of the provision of trained research staff, dedicated clinical research space and expertise in the conduct of clinical trials. In conjunction with our partners at the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics we are also able to offer help with protocol design and statistical and data management support.

Because of our core funding from the CSO we are able to offer our support services free of charge to investigators performing eligibly funded clinical trial projects. We are also able to support commercially funded clinical trials but we are required to charge for our services in this case. Our charges depend on the nature of the study and the level of resource required.

All applications to use the Glasgow CRF, adult and paediatric, should be made using the application form.
